Kama Ayurveda Lavender Patchouli Hair Cleanser Review

Hi Friends,

Hope you all had a happy and fun filled weekend. Today I am going to review a hair care product from Kama Ayurveda, Lavender Patchouli Shampoo. I have had my hair treated and straightened more than 5 times which means my hair need serious attention and for that reason I am very choosy when it comes to buying hair care products, earlier I had used liss unlimited from Loreal Professional, followed by Force Vector shampoo, but I was still suffering from hair loss, grey hair, split ends and very dry hair all at the same time. So I thought of changing my hair product and got this Kama Ayurveda lavender patchouli Shampoo.

Let’s start with the review now

What the product claims:

A mild hair cleanser with Hibiscus extracts and Pure Essential Oils of Lavender and Patchouli.Lavender soothes and calms the scalp and Patchouli has antibacterial properties. This herbal blend naturally nourishes and protects hair while cleansing.

Ingredients:

LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA
It is also known as Lavender. Traditionally it has been used for its healing powers that ranges as a sedative to a natural antiseptic. It is an herb, also used to make medicine. It is highly used in depression, insomnia, nervousness, acne, joint pain, nerve pain etc.

POGOSTEMON CABLIN
It is also known as Patchouli Plant. It has properties of being antibacterial, anti fungal, antiseptic and antiviral. The oil has great anti-aging properties as well. That's why it makes a good skin care product and it keeps skin young & healthy.

Note: It contains SLES and some chemicals(SLES can cause irritation on sensitive scalps)

Price:

595(INR) for 200 ml

Availability:

You can get it from any Kama Ayurveda store or Click Here

My take on the Product:

The product comes in a transparent long very hardy plastic bottle which has a wide opening neck with a screw cap on the top. We need to be careful while opening the cap as it has wide opening  and can lead to product wastage during application, not a travel friendly packaging. The labeling in the bottle contains ingredients list and other information. The product is very runny in consistency, light weighted and totally clear looking. It has a strong lavender fragrance which remains for long even after washing hair. It is very mild which lathers moderately, it is suggested that a cleanser be applied to the wet scalp. I have an oily scalp and dry hair, such a weird combination right?? To avoid that oiliness, I do wash my hair every alternate day. It cleanses my hair well from everyday dirt and impurities but as it is a mild shampoo it doesn’t have the ability to remove oiliness from my scalp so I end up washing my hair frequently. Another bit of information I like to share is that it never makes my hair dry even after such frequent usage, Thank God! I was little skeptical about the ingredient list of the product as it contains SLES which can cause irritation on scalps and was not expecting much, but it has the lavender and patchouli extracts which acts as natural antiseptic, antifungal and antiviral too, so it can be great option for sensitive and itchy scalps and I really don’t have any complain about the product as I am using my second bottle. My hair has become very soft and hair fall is much under control but obviously this is not only for this shampoo; I do use the Bringadi Intensive Hair Treatment from Kama Ayurveda which helped me recover from my hair trouble. My split ends issue is still there but my hair feels smooth and shiny and I don’t feel any dryness, another issue is it can’t remove the oil from my scalp. Since the cleanser is very mild, if you have oiled your hair, you need a lot of cleanser to remove the stickiness.

Pros:

·         Hardy packaging
·         Presence of lavender and patchouli extracts makes the cleanser great option for itchy problematic scalp
·         Fragrance is strong but soothing
·         Cleanses scalp very well
·         Makes hair soft and smooth
·         Lathers well
·         Doesn’t make hair dry
·         Helped in controlling hair fall

Cons:

·         Don’t like the presence of SLES and other chemicals
·         Wide opening mouth may lead to product wastage
·         Not able to remove oiliness from scalp

Verdict:

Overall I liked the cleanser, hardy packaging light weighted, lathers well, cleanses scalp well  and no sign of dryness. Helped controlling hair fall to some extent and off course my hair feels very soft and shiny. I would recommend this cleanser to the people who have a problematic and itchy scalp with dry frizzy hair and definitely people having a very dry hair can try this cleanser as it will manage your frizzy hair and will not weigh down your hair.

Rating:

3.9/5(Mark is deducted for the presence of SLES but yes it doesn't cause any irritation in my scalp)

That’s all for today friends!

Bbye

  6. Thanks for the honest review. Glad it doesn't irritate your scalp yet presence of SLES is unacceptable at this price :)

  7. I was expecting it to be SLES free...packaging sounds inconvenient but this surelt sounds great option for every alternate day wash without oiling hair which i go for in summers a lot...
