Essential tips on healthy skin and hair care routine this summer[Guest Post]

Hi Friends,

Wonderful summer is perfect time for everyone to relax and enjoy, but there are those who are probably going to suffer. We are talking about your skin and your hair, two parts of you who are not always so very happy about salty water, sand, and high temperatures. While it is wonderful to swim in the ocean and spend time soaking in sun by the pool, your skin and hair might need a helping hand to recover from those moments.

Water, water everywhere

Yes, you will be spending plenty of time diving, swimming, and jumping in water, but do you ever think about what other chemicals there are? Pool water is always full of chlorine and sea and ocean water has plenty of salt and minerals. While these ingredients are not bad for you, long exposure to any of them can cause your skin and hair to dry. First and foremost, drink plenty of water! This will keep your skin hydrated and your mind clearer (this means fewer headaches, it’s been proven!). It’s important to note that drinking sodas and coffee will not be the same as drinking water, so you try focusing on clear or sparkly water instead.

Get your body what it needs

Because of high temperatures you will likely be sweating a lot. While this may be your concern because of sweat stains, you should also know that sweat takes out other nutrients from your organism, such as potassium. In some extreme cases it may even lead to vitamin deficiency. Just like you will be protecting your skin with sunscreen and drink more water, you should also make sure you get additional nutrients such as vitamin C serum or magnesium pills.

Protect your hair

Water for your body equals conditioner for your hair, so you should replenish your hair’s moisture every few days, even if you’re using dry shampoo. Because it’s going to be super-hot outside, you might want to lay your blow dryer aside. Instead of straightening your hair embrace some of this year’s favourite hairstyles and wear messy buns or lovely loose braids instead. In addition, you might also make your own hair masks with coconut oil and egg yolks. Not only will these homemade masks restore some of your hair’s natural glow, it will also speed up its growth.

Sunburnt? Here’s what you can do

It’s a common scenario: you get to the beach or the pool, look in your bag and discover with dread that you forgot to pack your sunscreen. Or you did pack it, but you forgot to reply after getting out of the water and now your skin is all red and you’re in pain. Sadly, there is not much that can be done now, but luckily you don’t have to endure the pain. If you just got home and have nothing else to work with, apply some cold yoghurt and you will instantly feel relief. At the first chance you get, go to the nearest pharmacy or drugstore and get yourself cooling gels and balms. Apply them generously and within a few days you will be as good as new.

Summertime is for fun, games, parties, and festivals, not for sitting at home and worrying. While you may hesitate to take up some of your favourite activities because they can damage your skin, try not to worry too much. Healthy skin and hair care will allow you to forget about worrying because you will be happy with the results these easy tips have provided.

That's all for today!

Kama Ayurveda Lavender Patchouli Hair Cleanser Review

Hi Friends,

Hope you all had a happy and fun filled weekend. Today I am going to review a hair care product from Kama Ayurveda, Lavender Patchouli Shampoo. I have had my hair treated and straightened more than 5 times which means my hair need serious attention and for that reason I am very choosy when it comes to buying hair care products, earlier I had used liss unlimited from Loreal Professional, followed by Force Vector shampoo, but I was still suffering from hair loss, grey hair, split ends and very dry hair all at the same time. So I thought of changing my hair product and got this Kama Ayurveda lavender patchouli Shampoo.

Let’s start with the review now

What the product claims:

A mild hair cleanser with Hibiscus extracts and Pure Essential Oils of Lavender and Patchouli.Lavender soothes and calms the scalp and Patchouli has antibacterial properties. This herbal blend naturally nourishes and protects hair while cleansing.

Ingredients:

LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA
It is also known as Lavender. Traditionally it has been used for its healing powers that ranges as a sedative to a natural antiseptic. It is an herb, also used to make medicine. It is highly used in depression, insomnia, nervousness, acne, joint pain, nerve pain etc.

POGOSTEMON CABLIN
It is also known as Patchouli Plant. It has properties of being antibacterial, anti fungal, antiseptic and antiviral. The oil has great anti-aging properties as well. That's why it makes a good skin care product and it keeps skin young & healthy.

Note: It contains SLES and some chemicals(SLES can cause irritation on sensitive scalps)

Price:

595(INR) for 200 ml

Availability:

You can get it from any Kama Ayurveda store or Click Here

My take on the Product:

The product comes in a transparent long very hardy plastic bottle which has a wide opening neck with a screw cap on the top. We need to be careful while opening the cap as it has wide opening  and can lead to product wastage during application, not a travel friendly packaging. The labeling in the bottle contains ingredients list and other information. The product is very runny in consistency, light weighted and totally clear looking. It has a strong lavender fragrance which remains for long even after washing hair. It is very mild which lathers moderately, it is suggested that a cleanser be applied to the wet scalp. I have an oily scalp and dry hair, such a weird combination right?? To avoid that oiliness, I do wash my hair every alternate day. It cleanses my hair well from everyday dirt and impurities but as it is a mild shampoo it doesn’t have the ability to remove oiliness from my scalp so I end up washing my hair frequently. Another bit of information I like to share is that it never makes my hair dry even after such frequent usage, Thank God! I was little skeptical about the ingredient list of the product as it contains SLES which can cause irritation on scalps and was not expecting much, but it has the lavender and patchouli extracts which acts as natural antiseptic, antifungal and antiviral too, so it can be great option for sensitive and itchy scalps and I really don’t have any complain about the product as I am using my second bottle. My hair has become very soft and hair fall is much under control but obviously this is not only for this shampoo; I do use the Bringadi Intensive Hair Treatment from Kama Ayurveda which helped me recover from my hair trouble. My split ends issue is still there but my hair feels smooth and shiny and I don’t feel any dryness, another issue is it can’t remove the oil from my scalp. Since the cleanser is very mild, if you have oiled your hair, you need a lot of cleanser to remove the stickiness.

Pros:

·         Hardy packaging
·         Presence of lavender and patchouli extracts makes the cleanser great option for itchy problematic scalp
·         Fragrance is strong but soothing
·         Cleanses scalp very well
·         Makes hair soft and smooth
·         Lathers well
·         Doesn’t make hair dry
·         Helped in controlling hair fall

Cons:

·         Don’t like the presence of SLES and other chemicals
·         Wide opening mouth may lead to product wastage
·         Not able to remove oiliness from scalp

Verdict:

Overall I liked the cleanser, hardy packaging light weighted, lathers well, cleanses scalp well  and no sign of dryness. Helped controlling hair fall to some extent and off course my hair feels very soft and shiny. I would recommend this cleanser to the people who have a problematic and itchy scalp with dry frizzy hair and definitely people having a very dry hair can try this cleanser as it will manage your frizzy hair and will not weigh down your hair.

Rating:

3.9/5(Mark is deducted for the presence of SLES but yes it doesn't cause any irritation in my scalp)

That’s all for today friends!

Studio West Maaya Radiance Blush in Plum Shine Review, Swatches,Price

Hi Beautiful Ladies!

How are you doing beauties? I haven’t reviewed a makeup product since long, so today I am here with one of my favorite brand, Studio west from West Side. They really have some amazing collection of makeup items. Their products actually divided into two sections,” Maaya” and  “Pure Passion”,

Maaya is themed as more of festive collection and the rest one is for daily wearable. I did a haul from their collection long back and posted a picture on my Instagram account(Click Here).Blushes have always been in my daily makeup list and I do collect them a lot. Today I will be talking about a blush from the brand which I have added to my favorite list currently.

So let’s start with the review

What the product claims:

Radiant color that doesn’t streak or fade. Ultra-silky powder that sweeps on for maximum impact.

Price:

425(INR)

Availability:

You can get it from any WestSide store

My Take on the Product:

The blush comes in a black hardy plastic case packaging which has transparent lid on the top and you can easily check the actual color of the blush. Packaging is quite sleek and travel convenient too. The only con is there is no built in mirror inside so you will always need an extra mirror that you have to carry along. It is very smooth and creamy in texture so blending is very easy. It does not give an opaque color, sheer but buildable medium coverage which is I think perfect for people like me who wants a sheer touch of color for a healthy glow. It is best in its staying power; it could almost survive for 7 hours easily, so it is actually now in my daily office wear as I know I don’t have to reapply it again for the day. Though it is from festive range, it doesn’t contain any glitters and the shimmer part is also very minimal, so great for daily wear as well. The shade I have chosen is “Plum Shine” which is an earthy plum shade which can be suitable for every Indian skin tones and can look gorgeous on medium to dusky skin tones.

Pros:

·         Sleek hardy plastic packaging which is travel friendly
·         Smooth creamy texture
·         Doesn’t contain any glitter particles
·         Gives a buildable coverage
·         Staying power is good

Cons:

·         Lacks in color pay off

Verdict:

Overall I am happy with this blush, I have listed this item in my daily wearable products. Smooth creamy texture, hardy packaging, buildable coverage and great staying power, what else we could want from a blush? I would totally recommend this product to all my beauties to try for.

4/5

Review on UVMED Sunscreen Gel SPF 50 UVA by Ethicare Remedies

Hi Ladies,

Hope you all are doing well. Today I am here with a product from Ethicare remedies, UVMED Sunscreen, a sunscreen is very necessary for all seasons but more in summers, it is a much needed item whenever we step out into the sun and we cannot skip it for a single day. Currently I am using this sunscreen from Ethicare Remedies and thought of sharing my likes and dislikes about this product.

So let’s start with the review now

What the product claims:

-Uvmed provides 50 times more protection from sunburn, as it has been produced by special ingredients and unique formula. -Uvmed protect the skin form UVA I, UVA II and UVB. -Uvmed has oil free formula so it is ideal for oily, acne prone skin. -Regular use of Uvmed helps in preventing any type of skin damage done by UV rays. -It also prevents darkening of skin, sunburn, premature ageing. -Uvmed is useful for both indoor and outdoor and it can be used in any season. -It does not contain any colourant or perfume that may cause allergic effects.

Price:

349(INR) for 50ml pack

Ingredients:

Homosalate,Octrocrylene,Octyl salicylate,Avobenzone,Benzopheonne-3,Tinosorb-M

Availability:

You can get it from here Click Here

My Take on the Product:

Product comes in a yellow satin finish cardboard paper box which is little bit see through from the front and from there you can see the yellow squeezable tube with a flip cap on the top. The tube is quite handy and travel friendly as the flip cap does not leak the product and keeps it secured from inside. The product doesn’t come in gel formula as they mentioned but comes in tinted cream based consistency which looks little thick but when you apply it becomes very light on your skin. It does not leave any white caste behind after application so no worry about that. It has a light floral fragrance which I liked a lot and it is not at all overpowering. As the cream is light in nature, it spreads evenly and blends very easily into your skin and doesn’t leave any oiliness or greasiness after you apply. It gives a matte finish fresh look. Oily and combination skinned people don’t need any further moisturization but if you have extremely dry skin you need that to mix it with this sunscreen. Since it has high SPF 50 it definitely provides high protection against sun burn. I use it with the bb cream 30mins before I go out in the sun to make sure it works properly preventing my skin from any sun damage or any other issues.

Pros:

·         Cute yellow handy packaging
·         Light weighted creamy consistency
·         Absorbs into your skin quickly
·         Never leave any oiliness or greasiness post application
·         Spreads easily all over your face
·         Nice floral fragrance
·         Doesn’t leave white cast behind
·         Contains SPF 50 which provides high protection against sun damage

Cons

·         Not gel based as mentioned by the brand

Verdict:

Overall I am really happy with this sunscreen, not much pricey, handy packaging, light weighted creamy texture which absorbs into your skin easily and gives you a matte finish look without any greasiness and ofcourse provides high protection against sun burn and damages. I would recommend this product to all my friends specially oily and combination skinned people as it gives a sheen matte look.

Review on The Nature’s Co Mango Lip Pop with natural SPF 10

Hello beauties!

How are you doing my dear ladies?? Hope you had a fun filled weekend. Today I am going to review a lip balm from Nature’s Co ‘Mango Sun Protecting Lip Pop’.  Did I say Mango? Yes juicy mango Is my favorite fruit and I do always crave for mango in the summers, sometimes  I develop acnes due to my never ending love for mango but never stop eating them :-P No I am not going to elaborate this anymore, now coming to the actual topic!!! Lip balms are my daily essentials and if you look at my skincare stuffs you could find so many lip balms, be it winter or summer, I always need them. Recently this lip balm has been added to my stash and I am using it for couple of days, so please keep reading to know more about the product.

Let’s jump into the review

What the product claims:

Soft, luscious, moisturized lips are what our mango Lip-pop provides. An all natural formula. It protects and softens lips. Apply directly to your lips as often as required. Check out this ‘Mango Lip-Pop’ lip balm by The Nature’s Co. that will efficiently eliminate chapping and dryness. Prepared using extracts of shea butter, berry extracts, vitamin-E and kokum butter, it will also provide adequate moisture to your lips.

Ingredients:

Mango butter, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Carrot seed Oil, Vitamin e

Price:

325(INR) for 5ml

My Take on the Product:

The product comes in simple plastic cylindrical stick which does have a twisted holder in the bottom and a tight cap on the top. Very sleek, quite handy and travel convenient. I always look for stick lip balms rather than tubs as they maintain the hygiene issue.  Product is light pale mango color and has a yummy smell of fresh mangos, I just love the smell, always felt like eating it :-P smell doesn’t stay for long after couple of minutes it fades away. It has the smooth buttery consistency which glides smoothly on your lips. I feel it is having little heavy formula so it does take some time to settle down after layering and leaves a smooth even finish on your lips. My lips look super hydrated for hours and it remains for atleast 3 hours for me. It couldn’t survive meals, but I don’t feel like using this in the day time but in the bedtime or putting it underneath when wearing a matte lipstick. But yes if you are using this at day time, you definitely need reapplication after 2 to 3 hours as it starts drying. It gives me glossy lips and it doesn’t feel heavy on my lip, that’s great! I wake up in the morning with smooth and baby soft lips and it helps to keep my lips moisturized for hours with no more dry flakes.

Pros:

·         Sleek handy stick packaging which is cute too
·         Smells like delicious fresh mango
·         Soft buttery consistency which glides on your lips smoothly
·         Keeps my lip hydrated for long and I wake up with baby soft lips on the next morning
·         Product stays for 3 to 4 hours which is good enough and need reapplication after that
·         It heals chapped lips to some extent, I am using this product since last week, need some more time to check the full effectivity, I will update this later on.
Comes in different variants

Cons:

·         Expensive

Verdict:

Overall I am impressed with the lip balm, light weighted, yummy smell and with smooth buttery consistency it keeps my lips hydrated for hours, heals chapped portions to some extent and offcourse  with all the goodness of natural ingredients it reduces dryness of my lips and makes my lip looks soft and healthy. I would recommend this lip balm to all my friends to try and share your experience with me.

Rating:

4.75/5

That’s all for today my friends!
